Using natural materials such as hazel and willow to create plant supports adds a creative visual element to the garden as well as performing practical functions such as preventing plants from collapsing onto their neighbours, providing climbing supports and cages for netting.

Once you have learn a few techniques and become familiar with how to manipulate the material it can be a lot of fun adapting what you have learnt to your own garden. We’ll be focussing on making a range of smaller structures such as planter and perennial supports as well as a twisted top fence and small teepee. We’ll also look at a range of larger structures in the garden at Damson Farm and talk through how some of the techniques you’ve learnt can be scaled up.

Ideally we’ll be working outdoors for much of the day but we’ll be a very small group of 5 so that we can adapt the workshop to work indoors with a cosy fire if the weather happens to be torrential.

Refreshments

Alison will prepare a delicous vegetarian lunch including produce from the garden. There will be home made biscuits on arrival and we will end the day with tea and cake. If you have any specific dietary requests do let me know on the booking form.

What to Bring 

 Please bring your own secateurs.  We hope to spend part of the day outdoors so please dress appropriately with waterproof gear.  You may wish to bring a notebook, camera and your own water bottle.     All other materials will be supplied.

Directions will be emailed to you a couple of weeks before the workshop. Use Damson Farm rather than the postcode on Google Maps.

Cancellation policy

As a small business it’s not sustainable to offer refunds. However if you need to cancel your place up to 28 days before the event you will be offered a credit towards another workshop.   After that time, the offer only applies if we’ve been able to re-sell the place. It’s not possible to promote cancelled places for re-sale less than 4 days before the event.
